Patricia still has a couple memories of living in the new house on Kenmure Rd before the family (George AM & Hazel Bathgate) moved to the farm at Outram.
“The land at the back of the section was quite steep and we could see through fence and the paddocks to Kaikorai Valley Rd, so we children would sometimes sit and watch to see if we could see our grandfather Doull’s work truck driving down there. There were many arguments, mainly Alf and I, over who could see it first and whether we ever did see the right truck, I’ll never know, but it is one of those memories that stick.”
Milk was delivered to the house by horse and cart & Patricia says,
“I do remember us making the clip-clop noise with our mouths when we heard the clydesdale coming down the road and saying something like “here’s Mr Jock & old Pride” and we would call out to him. Now I believe it was actually Mr Pride and Jock, and neither were old, but he was very tolerant of us – we were all pre-schoolers then.”
